About
the author
Janet
E. Stout, Ph.D., is
Director of the
Special Pathogens
Laboratory at the VA
Medical Center in
Pittsburgh (USA) and
a Research Assistant
Professor at the
University of
Pittsburgh School of
Medicine. She earned
her BS in Biology
from Clarion
(Pennsylvania) State
College and her
Masters and Ph.D.
degrees in
Microbiology from
the University of
Pittsburgh. Dr.
Stout has
significant
experience in Legionella
detection and
disinfection. Recent
studies have
involved eradication
of legionellae from
hospital water
systems by
copper-silver
ionization,
molecular
epidemiology of
Legionnaires'
disease, and
legionellae in
biofilms. She is the
author of three book
chapters on
Legionnaires'
disease and more
than 40
peer-reviewed
papers, including
papers published in The
New England Journal
of Medicine, Journal
of the American
Medical Association,
Journal of
Clinical
Microbiology,
and the Journal
of Infectious
Diseases. Dr.
Stout is a member of
the American Society
for Microbiology and
Society for
Healthcare
Epidemiology of
American.
